Summertime almost gone

Summer is just moving by at super fast speed! I can’t believe it is already nearing the end of July. I haven’t posted here in ages, although I think about it all the time. I keep figuring I’ll get to it eventually. Well, now is eventually I guess!

Our summer has been relatively quiet this year. I have been dealing with a lot of sickness. Thankfully, I have an awesome doctor and we are pretty sure we have gotten me on the good meds now! My body is finally starting to heal and I hope to enjoy the last month of summer with my family. :)

In June, John’s parents came for a visit. We celebrated Benjamin’s 8th birthday.

Kids and I also went to the Renaissance Faire (in the rain, mind you) and we did plenty of Scout stuff.

In July, we had the pack overnighter with the cub scouts (and some troop guys as well). We got to visit Fox News 12 with the pack and then near the end of the month we put in our resignations to that pack. Too much work. We were pulling about five jobs there and it was more stress than fun for us. There were many factors in our leaving … distance being a big one. We will miss the group but know that they will do awesome. So now we are checking out two new packs and will hopefully make our decision by the end of August to see which one will fit us best.

Next month’s big thing will be our camping trip up to Bull Trout Lake. I can’t say I’m looking forward to it yet. I don’t handle driving to new places that well… but it’s supposed to be beautiful up there. We will be camping with three other families from church and then the boys will all stay for a men’s retreat with the church while the girls all come home. Should be fun (I hope!)

So that’s all that has been happening in my neck of the woods lately. Will be sharing more soon.

Home Alone

At least that’s how it feels!

This morning we waved goodbye to the Inlaws. They didn’t leave until almost 10am! Late start for them and they will be hitting rain for most of the day. A long nine plus hour drive. Yuck. Had a great time while they were here though.

Now that the holiday is winding down, I am about ready to knock down the Christmas tree and put away the holiday stuff. It will be good to do some cleaning ’round here. Much needed. Today is my lazy day though. No extended family. No errands to run, nothing I need to do. (well, other than dishes and starting some laundry). Kids and I are just going to relax and enjoy the day. John won’t be home till 7pm. Then he’ll be on mornings for the rest of the week. Yay for that! I much prefer it when he works the same hours each day. Makes it easier on everyone.

One of my Christmas gifts was the Shrek four pack blu-ray set. I love me some Shrek! We watched two of them with the family and tonight we will be watching Shrek the Third. Wednesday evening will be the fourth one. Looking forward to both of them. :)

I pray each of you has a wonderful day. I am reflecting about some things… blog posts to be coming. On my goals for the New Year and on a theme/word(s) for 2011. So stay tuned. Until then…

Christmas Time

Christmas was fun. My Inlaws arrived on the 20th and will be leaving on the 28th (tomorrow). A little recap of Christmas day…

Kids and I each woke up at 8am. Took care of the dog. Then they went to wake Daddy. They have to wait for their stockings until Dad and I are both up and ready. After stockings, we prepared breakfast… homemade biscuits, sausage gravy, and monkey bread. Can we say YUM?! It doesn’t get much better than that. Showers after and then they were able to open their goodies. Boy were they spoiled. Eleven new Wii games (thank you Swagbucks). Lots of books. For Hannah: Webkinz, dolls, American Girl doll stuff, how to learn guitar, Kung Zhus and more. For Benjamin: Webkinz, Kung Zhus, legos, dragons, his much desired Harry Potter Lego Castle, and more. Together they also received Apples to Apples (Junior), Blurt, crystal making kit, and puzzles. Daddy got Apples to Apples the adult version as well. Here’s a couple photos.

Dinner was Turkey and all the fixings. Yumm-o. We invited neighbors to dine with us. Then that evening after friends were gone and the kitchen was cleaned up, we celebrated my Mother in Law’s birthday (she’s a Christmas baby)… we had Lemon Meringue pie and Chocolate pie. We played hours of Apples to Apples as well…first the junior edition with the kids and then once they went off to do their own thing, we broke out the adult version. Oh my… we laughed until we cried. That game rocks. Thanks to Julie (again) for introducing us to A2A in August. Those games are loads of fun!

All in all, I had a really good Christmas. Was able to speak with my parents and brother. This was Christmas #12 spent without them. Not an easy thing. And this year actually hit me hard. I’m thankful for technology and the ability to see and share photos and to talk with them on the phone. I’m hoping the New Year will bring me a webcam so we can start Skype-ing together :)

Sunday we went and saw Harry Potter 7 at the Edwards Theatre. Oh WOW. Great movie. The kids loved it too. I am thrilled they kept to the book so well and I cannot wait until the last movie arrives in theatres in July! Yay! After the movie, we came home and the boys made homemade noodles and cooked up a delicious turkey noodle soup and some cornbread.

So that was a bit of our Christmas weekend. Hope yours went wonderfully too!

Momma’s Autumn Decor

This may seem like a strange post. It sure sounds like it. My Mom has had a serious love for decorating her home and making it look beautiful. Her favorite season, like me, is Autumn. I think she likes Autumn because it’s when she had her one and only beautiful daughter. . . she disagrees saying she likes it for the beauty of the season. Hmmm I say!

At any rate, she took… or rather… my Dad took a few photos of the house so I could see. And she wasn’t even finished. Said she still has BOXES of the stuff in her rooms. Not fair says I. Would be great if she lived closer; she could let me “borrow” all her stuff and then she could come decorate my house. He he he…

Anyways… here are a few of the photos. I just love them. Take a look.

I thought this was very pretty. I love the birds and the candles.

One of my Mom’s many trees. This lady has like 10+ trees for Christmas so it’s no wonder she has at least two decorated for Autumn. Geesh. Oh and that Boo sign? She made it. Boo also happens to be her nickname since she was a small child. Of course, that is also my son’s nickname… and I think she should send it to me him.

Isn’t that just cozy looking? Another tree there of course. She made the wall hanging too. I could just sit there curled up in a quilt with a book in my hand and a hot drink in another. Ahhh, love it!

The kitchen. It looks delish to me. Of course this could be because my hubby doesn’t like “clutter” in his kitchen. He says you can’t work in a kitchen like this (and if you know my husband and his cooking skillz, well, you would know he needs space… lots of it). So I don’t really put anything on my nice kitchen counters. My Mom’s looks so very inviting though. I love her wall color (hint hint hubs!) and just love all the little touches she gives it. She also made the curtain above the window. Beautiful to me.

She sent more photos than that, but that’s enough for here. I’m already missing them. *sniff* Amazing how photos can bring up memories even without ever being there. I miss my family, miss sitting and chatting with them IN PERSON. It’s been a long time. Too long.

Hannah’s Sleepover

Oh and it’s over… praise God I made it… he he. Hannah decided almost last minute that she wanted to have a birthday party. Eeks. Ended up having four girls over plus the cousins’ brother… so that made seven kids. Also had a neighbor boy hang out for most of it (but didn’t sleep over). They had a good time and she was spoiled royally. Look at the custom cake that Costco in Boise made for her :

Photobucket

She wanted a Princess in the Frog cake but Walmart is so darn expensive for about half the cake and half the taste quality. So we went with Costco… but was a bit bummed at first b/c they do not have character cakes. However, one of the Ladies there came up with this when we explained what we had wanted. It’s not on the list of cakes they make and was special just for her. That is super awesome. Great to have a hubby that works and knows people at Costco, lol.

To go with the cake, she got the movie… on blu ray with a digital copy that we put on her new ipod. That was her big gift from us. Can’t believe she is old enough to have one of those … eeks. So the kiddos all had Papa Murphy’s pizza and watched The Princess & The Frog… then had cake and ice cream.

Photobucket

Saturday was relaxing. Some of the kids were not able to stay till lunchtime, but they all did get to watch the new Barbie movie which was a gift from her Gparents(Mills).

She was spoiled with a few new dresses as well. Here she is in one that her Aunt Stephanie made for her… she also made the hair piece and the purse to match. Talk about spoiled ROTTEN!

Photobucket

After everyone left, we locked up the house (literally) and three of us took naps while Hannah played for a bit. I was plum exhausted. Just watching kids playing and goofing around can make me tired… I must be getting old! After dinner tonight we plan on watching Old Dogs with Robin Williams and John Travolta. Have heard some good things about it so looking forward to seeing it. Chat later!

St. Patty’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day y’all. Today we celebrated with green oatmeal… made sugar cookies in the shape of a shamrock (although Ben says they look more like a cross)… did some St. Patty’s day crafts along with our schooling… and then had corned beef, cabbage and potatoes for dinner. Yum.

Our yummy shamrock/cross sugar cookies :)

Bday Girl

WOW… Today my daughter, my firstborn… turns 9 years old. WOW. Just wow. Where has time gone? I can still remember the first time I held her, the first time we brought her home from the hospital. * sniff * My baby is growing up too too fast!

Photobucket

This is a photo of her on her birthday, hanging out in the car with her bubba. Daddy had a quick meeting at Costco concerning a marketing position and then we were off to the Discovery Center for the day. John had never been so we spent quite a bit of time there. Lots of fun! Tomorrow is one of my fave days of the year………… St. Patty’s Day (and really, only because it’s full of the color GREEN). LOL

Happy Birthday Baby. I love you!!!

Happy 43rd Babe…

Happy 43rd birthday to my wonderful and amazing hubby. :) :) :)
Photobucket

Also a happy birthday to Mr. Tim… our cousin. May God bless each of you with many many more years.

After church today, John and I watched The Time Traveler’s Wife. That was a good movie. A few things that make it not family friendly, but a good date movie. Ending was great too… I cried (nothing new there). Then after the movie, we went down the street to our friend’s house. They cooked a birthday dinner for John… steaks on the grill (it was a gorgeous day today!!!), baked potatoes, asparagus, salad, and chocolate cake. Yummy. Always great to spend time with friends too :)

Hannah and the bike

So Hannah had a spill today. What is it with the month of March? Last March she hit a bump in the sidewalk and fell off of her scooter, scraping her face and chipping her front teeth. This time (and not far from where she fell last time), she flew over her bike when she hit a rock… and here is what she now looks like :

Photobucket

My poor baby! Wonder if it will be gone by her birthday? Hmmm. Sadly, she did go into shock after it happened. She is super sensitive. Pale, pasty, fatigued… had to force her to stay awake and focused. Fortunately, she is feeling pretty good now. Hope it heals quickly. Thanking God for protecting her! He is so good!!!
